Everton will confirm former Crystal Palace, West Ham and England manager Sam Allardyce as their new permanent manager.

Allardyce, who has been out of work since his surprise departure from Selhurst Park at the end of last season, will take over from caretaker manager David Unsworth – who has been in temporary charge since Ronald Koeman’s dismissal over a month ago.

Everton confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that Allardyce would finalise his move to Goodinson Park at the club's Finch Farm training ground.

Things have gone from bad to worse on Merseyside under the guise of the former Toffees player, who was dealt a rough hand when stepping in to look after things following Koeman’s departure.

A 5-1 defeat to Atalanta in the Europa League last week, following by a 4-1 humbling at Southampton on Sunday, has left confidence in tatters at Goodison Park, and Allardyce will have another big job on his hands having kept Sunderland and the Eagles in the top flight against the odds in the last two Premier League seasons.

Former Everton boss David Moyes visits Goodison Park with his West Ham squad on Wednesday night, and Allardyce is expected to be in the stands to see his old club take on his new squad.
