Former Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky has announced his retirement from football at the age of 37.

The former Czech Republic international made 248 appearances for the Gunners, winning two FA Cups during his spell at the club.

The attacking midfielder, who started and ended his career at Sparta Prague, joined the north Londoners from Borussia Dortmund in 2006 before leaving on a free transfer after a decade at Emirates Stadium.

Speaking at a press conference to announce his retirement, Rosicky said: “After careful consideration, I have realised I am no longer able to fully prepare my body for what the professional football requires.

“I would like to thank Sparta for raising me, for being the first step in my career in big clubs, and for allowing me to say goodbye at the place I love the most."

Most recently Rosicky played 12 times for his boyhood and scored one goal, scoring just 17 minutes into his second debut.

One of the 36-year-old's, known as 'Little Mozart', most famous Arsenal goals was a powerful finish across Hugo Lloris inside two minutes of a north London derby in March, 2014.
