Harry Kane has offered advice to Tottenham team-mate Harry Winks on how to keep his 2018 World Cup hopes on track after making his full England debut.

Winks, 21, has only started four Premier League games for Spurs, but made his England senior bow in Sunday's 1-0 qualifying win in Lithuania on Sunday night.

The Spurs midfielder was called up as a late addition to the Three Lions set-up after injuries struck Gareth Southgate's squad, but Winks impressed in an otherwise unremarkable England victory.

Kane has led England to consecutive 1-0 wins as the stand-in captain with winning goals in each game, and was impressed with how Winks took to international football.

Speaking to ITV alongside Winks after the match, Kane had some words of wisdom for his Spurs team-mate with a number of spots in Southgate's 23-man World Cup squad up for grabs this season.

Kane said: "[Winks must] keep working hard. He's a great player, fantastic.

"He can drive past players, quick passing, breaks up play well, so we're delighted for him.

"He deserved it, he's been great for us when he's played this season, so he's just got to carry it on, keep his head down and I'm sure he'll be fine."

Southgate also praised Winks following his debut, saying he "showed a real calm head".
