Imminent Dick Law exit could give Ivan Gazidis an increased role in Arsenal’s transfer strategy

Arsene Wenger insists that Ivan Gazidis does not have a permanent office at their London Colney training ground amid speculation that Arsenal’s chief executive could succeed Dick Law as the club’s transfer negotiator.

Standard Sport understands that Law, who has been at the club for eight years, will leave the club by the end of the month to spend more time with his family in the United States.

Reports on Sunday suggest that Gazidis is in line to fill the vacancy left by Law, which would see him take on a more direct role in the club’s transfer policy.

Gazidis was a major driving force behind plans to bring in a director of football at Arsenal, but that move was scrapped with Wenger unwilling to relinquish his powers at the club.

It is understood that Gazidis sounded out several candidates for the position during the second half of last season, and any new role for Gazidis could put that notion back on the table.

But speaking after Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday, Wenger denied that Gazidis has a permanent office at the club’s training ground.

"Ivan Gazidis has his office here (at the stadium),” Wenger explained. "There is an office for him (at the training ground) when he comes up, or anybody else who comes from Highbury House.

"But on a daily basis you can find him at Highbury House."

Law’s departure comes after a transfer window that began in promising fashion with the signings of Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac but ended in confusion as Arsenal wobbled over their insistence that Alexis Sanchez would not be sold in the final year of his contract.

Arsenal appointed Huss Fahmy to work on player contracts in June and it is not yet decided whether the former Team Sky lawyer will cover for Law on his departure.
