It wouldn't be a real Jose Mourinho press conference without a glancing blow at a potential title rival, and so it proved again with the Manchester United manager on Saturday.

United battled to a 2-0 victory against Leicester City at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils overcoming a Romelu Lukaku penalty miss to keep their 100 per cent Premier League record this season courtesy of goals from substitutes Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellaini.

Leicester were subdued for much of the match as United piled on the pressure, with Jamie Vardy unable to make the kind of impact he had when the Foxes were narrowly beaten 4-3 by Arsenal on the opening day of the 2017-18 season.

Vardy scored twice as the 2015-16 champions threatened to beat Arsene Wenger's side on their own turf, while the Gunners followed up that victory with a disappointing defeat at Stoke.

United are top of the table heading into the international break and yet to concede a league goal in three games, and Mourinho couldn't resist a sly dig at Wenger's defence as he toasted another win.

"Is Vardy a very dangerous player? I would say one of the most dangerous players in the Premier League," he told his post-match press conference.

"Was he dangerous today? No.

"Why? Because we played so well to control that.

"[Were] Leicester very dangerous against Arsenal? Yes they were.

"I watched the match three times. Were they dangerous against us? No.

"Why? Because of us."
