Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says he ‘won’t cry’ over Paul Pogba’s injury in their 3-0 Champions League win over Basel.

The 24-year-old, who was named as captain for the first time in his United career on Tuesday night, was forced off inside 20 minutes after overstretching in a challenge.

When asked about the midfielder’s injury, Mourinho told BT Sport: “I don’t know it looks for me too [a hamstring injury] but I haven't spoken with the medical department, this is why we have a squad, we won't cry about injuries.”

“No Paul for Sunday, we have [Ander] Herrera we have [Marouane] Fellaini we have [Michael] Carrick.”

The French international, who arrived at Old Trafford for a club-record £89m last summer, had enjoyed a strong start to the season scoring two and assisting another two in four games.

Despite the depth in his squad, Mourinho will be hoping Pogba is not sidelined for too long with games against Everton, CSKA Moscow and Liverpool on the horizon.
