Kevin De Bruyne doubts Manchester City will do unbeaten throughout the Premier League season as it is much harder than "10 or 15 years ago", when Arsenal's Invincibles achieved the feat.

Pep Guardiola's side have dropped just two points from their opening 10 games of the league season - also winning all five of their games in other competitions - to sit five points clear in the standings.

Arsenal famously went 49 league games unbeaten 13 years ago, a period which covered the entire 2003-04 season to make history, and the form of City has prompted questions over a repeat this campaign.

But De Bruyne is unconvinced given the increased competition throughout England's top flight, telling City's official website: "To go unbeaten? Well, it’s very hard.

"I don’t think it will be possible. The level of competition is so high, in every team. It’s not like, with all respect, 10 or 15 years ago where you have a couple of teams that won’t win against the top teams.

"Now, every game is hard and you need to be mentally there.

"And with the Champions League and all the cups, there will be a game where maybe we are a little bit less and maybe lose. But as long as our form keeps going, it’s good."
