Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has claimed that he "could really create headlines" about Alexis Sanchez's proposed move from Arsenal to Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that United are interested in the Chile international with Henrikh Mkhitaryan expected to move to the Gunners as part of a swap deal.

However, Standard Sport understands that Arsenal are pushing United to include a cash payment of up to £10million to allow the deal to go through, and Mourinho says the deal is "not done at all" ahead of the weekend.

Liverpool set a new world record transfer fee for a defender when they signed Virgil van Dijk from Southampton for £75m earlier this month, though Klopp as in the past been critical of the spending of Premier League rivals.

In the wake of Paul Pogba's then-world-record £89m move to United in 2016, Klopp suggested that he "would even do it differently if I could spend that money".

Speaking about Sanchez's potential move to Old Trafford, BBC Sport reports Klopp saying on Friday: "I could really create headlines - but I won’t.

"We’ve had our big transfer. Nothing to say about the numbers.

"Alexis Sanchez makes sense for pretty much every team."

Manchester City were interested in signing Sanchez since the summer, only to drop their interest as United put a big-money offer to Sanchez.

Pep Guardiola has congratulated United as they look set to seal a deal, saying on Friday: "I am not the guy with the numbers.

"What I know right now is that Alexis is an Arsenal player and I think he’ll go to United so congratulations to both of them and good luck.

"My opinion of Alexis remains the same, I wish him all the best."
