Jose Mourinho's early transfer window moves are starting to pay off as Manchester United lead the Premier League title charge after a dramatic start to the 2017-18 season.

All eyes are on Mourinho this term, with Champions League qualification via a Europa League triumph glossing over what was a disappointing sixth-placed finish in the 2016-17 table.

But the Portuguese coach is well known for domestic success during his second year at a number of clubs, and early signs point to a potentially memorable year at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils look a leaner, more muscular side compared to the stodgy years of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, with summer signings Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic adding power and confidence to a side lacking character since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure.

United sit top of the table with maximum points, and are yet to concede a goal with Phil Jones impressing after years of injuries hampering his development. With Victor Lindelof yet to get up to speed and Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the road to recovery after re-signing with the club, Mourinho will have further options without having to dip into the January transfer market.

However, United fans will be wary of false dawns - especially given their disastrous form in recent years.
