Jose Mourinho made a sensational return to playing football 30 years after ending his professional career as the Manchester United manager turned out in goal for QPR's charity Game 4 Grenfell match on Saturday.

The 54-year-old was substituted on for Alan Shearer's side in the 63rd minute at Loftus Road as his teammates, which included the likes of Trevor Sinclair, Ally McCoist and Jamie Redknapp, led the game 2-1.

Mourinho was quickly called into action as he punched away a cross, although he then found himself in the referee's book for time wasting.

Despite his best efforts, the Portuguese conceded in the 76th minute when Stan Collymore's pass found Kasabian's Chris Edwards, who tapped into an empty net.

Stars gather in west London for Grenfell Tower football match

The former Chelsea manager's appearance in Game 4 Grenfell came 30 years after Mourinho, who spent his career playing in midfield, had his final professional match for Portuguese side Comercio e Industria in 1987.

Mourinho's involvement in the game had only been confirmed on Friday night by Marcus Mumford, who captained Les Ferdinand's side.

But with the international break on, Mourinho joined a whole host of stars from football, music and entertainment to help raise funds for those affected by the Grenfell Tower disaster, which claimed the lives of at least 80 people on June 14.

The money generated by ticket sales and donations will be passed onto the London Community Foundation and then the Evening Standard Dispossesed Fund, which helps grassroots charities tackling poverty, inequality and exclusion across the capital.
