Zlatan Ibrahimovic has warned Manchester United's rivals he intends to "finish" what he started at Old Trafford... by winning the Premier League title.

Ibrahimovic joined United on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2016, proving an instant success in England as he scored 28 goals in all competitions.

The former Sweden captain scored EFL Cup Final winner against Southampton last season before suffering a serious knee injury in United's Europa League quarter-final win over Anderlecht.

The injury ended his 2016-17 campaign as United went on to lift the Europa League in his absence, and the striker was initially released by the club this summer before signing a new deal in late August.

Ibrahomovic signed the new contract while recovering from the cruciate ligament injury, and posted a video on Twitter on August 25 with the caption: "I come to finish what I started @ManUtd".

Interviewing Ibrahimovic for Sky Sports, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry told the forward that he "loved" the striker's message before querying what the 36-year-old's realistic ambitions are.

Ibrahimovic replied: "I say I come back to finish what I started. Everything I build up from the first season because obviously we won the three trophies (including the Community Shield).

"The ending for me was not the ending I wanted or nobody wanted, especially after how the season went and everything.

"The target is the Premier League, and that is my target to finish.

"So everything that I started from the first season, we will finish it in the second one."

Ibrahimovic is in the final stages of his recovery as he trains back at United's Carrington complex, with Jose Mourinho suggesting the forward could be back in action before the end of 2017.

United sit second in the League after a disappointing sixth-placed finish last season, but face a tough task in stopping unbeaten neighbours Manchester City, who lead the Red Devils by five points after just 10 games.
