Mesut Ozil will be unavailable for Arsenal’s home game against Brighton on Sunday, Arsene Wenger has confirmed.

The playmaker has been ruled out as he struggles to overcome a knee inflammation that has limited him to just seven minutes of action over Arsenal’s last four fixtures.

Though Gunners boss Wenger confirmed the injury would be “very short-term” Ozil’s recovery will not come in time for the visit of newly-promoted Brighton to the Emirates.

Ozil is not the only one fighting to prove his fitness, with Alex Iwobi still struggling to overcome the thigh injury that kept him out of the travelling party that won 4-2 against BATE Borisov in Belarus on Thursday.

Vice-captain Laurent Koscielny will also require tests over the Achilles problem for which he requires daily treatment.

“We have a doubt about Laurent Koscielny unfortunately and he will have a test tomorrow,” Wenger said. “It’s an Achilles problem, it’s on-going. I think everybody else should be available.

“Sead Kolasinac had some problems, but he is available. That’s basically it.”
