Aaron Ramsey is set to miss Arsenal’s derby clash with Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

Ramsey faced a race against time to recover in time for the London derby after suffering the latest muscular problem in the 1-1 draw at Southampton on December 10.

Speaking ahead of the visit to West Brom on New Year’s Eve Arsene Wenger confirmed that Ramsey would not have recovered in time, nor would he be available for the following league game on January 3.

The Welsh midfielder’s injury has come as a cruel blow after he told Standard Sport earlier this month that he was optimistic he had left the worst of his troubles behind him.

Arsene Wenger pleased with win over Crystal Palace

“I just want to stay fit and healthy and let my football take care of itself,” he said. “I’ve been putting everything out there and hopefully it will continue.

“I have adapted my body to the load of playing in the Premier League and am building up that fitness gradually.”
