Roy Hodgson is hoping to unearth the players willing to "die" for Crystal Palace as they attempt to move away from the threat of relegation.

Hodgson will shuffle his pack for Tuesday's League Cup third round fixture with Huddersfield after seeing the Eagles become the first team in England top-flight history to record zero points and goals after five games.

The only goals Palace have scored this season came in the 2-1 win over Ipswich in the second round - James McArthur with a late double - and the new manager wants some more faces to prove their worth.

Most significantly, Pape Souare is set to return after a year out following a car crash and deadline day arrival Mamadou Sakho will feature for the first time since ankle ligaments.

"I’ll have a chance to see a few more players," Hodgson told reporters.

"Going forward, I’ll have a much better idea of the playing personnel, and that’s a very important factor.

"That was an important part at [former club] Fulham: looking at the playing personnel, working out who’s going to be good enough on the field and who’s going to be ready to roll their sleeves up and die for us in this cause because we’re not doing too well."
