Tottenham have promised to punish the fans who were pictured with a banner referring to the car crash Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso was involved six years ago, which resulted in the death of a young woman.
Supporters, alleged to be Spurs fans, were seen carrying a banner outside the John Smith's Stadium where Tottenham beat Huddersfield 4-0 on Saturday lunchtime which carried Alonso's name next to an image of a car, a no alcohol sign and reference to the girl who died in a car he was driving in 2011.
Then, aged 20 and playing for Bolton Wanderers, Alonso was arrested and charged with offences including speeding and being over the legal alcohol limit after a car he was driving crashed and resulted in the death of a 19-year-old woman.
Alonso did not go to prison, but was fined just over £50,000 and banned from driving for three years and four months.
The banner referencing the incident was seen on social media on Saturday, but was later deleted.
Spurs have since confirmed they are investigating the banner - with the club vowing to take action if the supporters in question are found to be Tottenham fans.
"This banner is clearly in extremely poor taste and we are investigating the matter," a Tottenham spokesman told The Times.
"If found to be a Spurs fan, they will be dealt with accordingly."
