Manchester United will face Sevilla in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Jose Mourinho’s side went into Monday’s draw in Nyon knowing that, having won Group A, would draw one of Bayern Munich, Juventus, Sevilla, Shakhtar Donetsdk, FC Porto or Real Madrid.

United escaped facing one of the European giants, though Sevilla will provide a tough test having finished as runners-up to Liverpool in Group E, drawing twice against the Premier League club.

Sevilla are certainly no European slouches either, winning a hat-trick of Europa League trophies in 2014, 2015 and 2016 before United collected the 2017 trophy.

The first legs of the Round of 16 will begin in February, week commencing Monday 12th, with the final match day on Wednesday February 21.

The second legs will then take place at fortnight after, with the match day on Wednesday March 14.

The draw for the quarter-finals will then be held on Friday March 16th.

How Manchester United reached the last 16

United finished the Champions League group stages as winners of Group A following five wins and one loss from their six matches.

Mourinho's side opened up their campaign with 3-0 win at home to Basel before they travelled to Moscow and beat CSKA 4-1 in late September.

A narrow 1-0 win away to Benfica, secured by a Marcus Rashford second-half goal, maintained United's 100 per cent win record in Group A as they then beat the Portuguese side 2-0 at Old Trafford.

But a late 1-0 loss against Basel at St.Jakob-Park in November prevented United from qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League with a flawless record.

Mourinho's men still topped their group, however, after United came from behind to beat CSKA Moscow 2-1 at Old Trafford in early December to equal their record of 40 home games unbeaten.
