Wilfried Zaha returned to training with Crystal Palace today as he eyes a swift comeback to Roy Hodgson’s side.

Zaha has not featured since the opening day of the season, a 3-0 home defeat by Huddersfield that he departed wearing a brace on his right knee.

After a lengthy recovery process the winger today joined those of the Palace squad not away on international duty for training at Beckenham.

The 24-year-old will hope to prove his fitness to Hodgson ahead of next Saturday’s Selhurst Park clash against Chelsea.

The Eagles are still searching for their first point of the season and are without their sole senior striker, Christian Benteke, who is out for five weeks with a knee injury.

Hodgson did not offer the most optimistic of assessments that their losing run could be ended against the champions, admitting after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United that Palace were “like a boxer knocked down by superior fighters.

“We try to stay in there and not surrender.”

Zaha may not be the only high-class attacker making a return at Selhurst Park, with Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata hoping to shake off a grade II hamstring injury.
