Borussia Dortmund are ready to snub offers from Manchester United and Chelsea for striker Robert Lewandowski – even though they risk losing him for free next year.

The Bundesliga giants had admitted that they were willing to listen to offers for Lewandowski last month, with the striker refusing to sign a new deal.

But despite the fact that he could walk away for free at the end of next season, Dortmund have reportedly changed their minds on selling Lewandowski and will now rebuff all bids.

The news was leaked to the German press just hours after Bayern Munich confirmed they had captured Dortmund’s leading light Mario Gotze.

And now, seemingly fearing that they will be left behind if Lewandowski quits too, Dortmund have put their foot down and ordered him to stay.

The decision will come as a blow to both Manchester United and Chelsea, who are known to be tracking the Poland international with a view to a summer bid.

United were strongly linked with a move during the January transfer window, while Chelsea are also thought to consider him an alternative if they miss out on top target Radamel Falcao.

Lewandowski is widely considered one of the best strikers in Europe, having bagged 53 goals in 94 matches since his move from Polish football.
