Arsenal could be set for a January transfer window showdown with arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur as the battle for Bayern Munich’s Xherdan Shaqiri heats up.

The Gunners are reportedly one of three English clubs in the hunt for the £18m rated winger, who has been told he can leave next month by the Bundesliga giants.

Swiss website Blick are reporting that the two London clubs are ‘very interested’ in the 23-year-old, who has also been tracked by Manchester United.

Shaqiri has played 43 times for Switzerland and shone at the World Cup in Brazil but has so far struggled to establish himself in Pep Guardiola’s first XI.

The player started his career at FC Basel before making his move to Germany in 2012. He has previously expressed his desire to play in the Premier League and has hinted that London would be his preferred destination.
