Arsene Wenger believes England have missed a trick by letting Alex Iwobi slip through the net.

The Arsenal boss was impressed with the 19-year-old’s performance against Burnley in the FA Cup and believes he has a bright future at the Emirates.

Iwobi pledged his future to Nigeria after representing England at Under-16, U-17s and U-18s level.
And Wenger thinks that decision will come back to haunt the Three Lions.

‘I think he’s one England have missed because he plays for Nigeria now,’ Wenger said.

‘He should play for England.

‘I don’t think he has played in a competitive game for Nigeria. I remember I turned him down for an U23 tournament. But then Nigeria called him up for the first team to force him to go.

‘I think he has shown everybody that he is a good football player, again. I find him personally very interesting.

‘His decision-making is spot on. His awareness is very interesting. He’s very clever. I like his game.’
