Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho says the transfer market has been inflated by the way in which clubs are spending amounts up to £50million in an ‘easy way’.
The Red Devils have spent over £100million this summer on Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku with the latter arriving on a £75m deal.
Mourinho, 54, wants to sign two more players but United have been frustrated in their pursuits of Eric Dier and Ivan Perisic with their clubs demanding close to £50m for each player.
The Portuguese boss wanted the club’s transfer bussiness to be completed before pre-season but he says he has sympathy for Ed Woodward, who he says is operating in a ‘dangerous’ market.
‘I always thought the problem is not what you pay for these kind of [top] players, I don’t think the problem is what you pay for Pogba, I don’t think the problem is going to pay crazy for Neymar,” said Mourinho.
‘I think the problem is with the other group which is a big group because players like Pogba, there is one or two [big] transfers [like that] per transfer window. The other ones are where you have 100 transfers and for me that is the dangerous area of the market
‘Some clubs are paying or they don’t buy because they don’t accept the numbers that are now ruling the market, or to do it they have to go the same levels and for me that’s what worries me a little bit because now we speak about £30 million, £40 million, £50 million in such an easy way.’
Premier League clubs are on course to spend around £1.2bn this summer with £850m having already been spent.
There is more than a month left in the transfer market, which shuts on August 31st.
