Marco Verratti could be set to spark further transfer speculation over his future, with the Manchester United and Barcelona target unhappy with his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.
Currently earning £6.2million a year at the Parc des Princes, Verratti is keen to negotiate a major pay rise as new signing Dani Alves is said to be on £12.5m a year after joining from Juventus.
This has apparently not gone down well with the Italy international, who was strongly linked earlier in the summer with a move away as he seemed keen to take up an offer from Barca.
United have recently been linked with an interest in the 24-year-old as well, and may be encouraged by this latest reported dispute between himself and PSG.
According to Sport, Verratti is ready to make a nuisance of himself again, despite recently issuing an apology to the club’s fans via an interview on their official website.
‘I want to apologise to everyone at the club: the president, the fans and the players,’ he said earlier this month.
‘I am very happy here. We go back to training now. I am thrilled to be back here and start working again. I know the club trusts me and I really want to apologise once again.’
United could do with strengthening in midfield this summer, with the likes of Nemanja Matic and Eric Dier thought to be among Jose Mourinho’s top targets, though both deals have proven hard to negotiate.
Verratti recently linking up with new agent Mino Raiola could also be a big boost for the Red Devils, who have clients Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Romelu Lukaku on their books, while he also brought Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Old Trafford last summer.
PSG, meanwhile, are being strongly linked with an astonishing £197m move for Barcelona star Neymar, so may need to sell players in order to meet Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulations, especially if Verratti asks to almost double his salary.
