Everton star Ross Barkley is open to the idea of joining Manchester United this summer, according to reports.

Ronald Koeman has informed Barkley that he is not in his plans for the season ahead and the England attacking midfielder is being linked with a number of top Premier League clubs.

Barkley has rejected the offer of a bumper new contract at Goodison Park, which Koeman has confirmed, and the 23-year-old is now certain to move on ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

The Guardian claim Barkley is interested in joining United in the coming weeks following Romelu Lukaku’s Old Trafford switch earlier this month.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham are also expressing a strong interest in the £50million midfielder.

It’s understood Spurs remain pole position to sign Barkley, though, with Mauricio Pochettino yet to bring in any reinforcements.

On Barkley’s future, Koeman stated: ‘His personal situation is not so difficult, we made a really good offer for him to sign a new contract, he declined that contract he told me he’s looking for a new challenge.

‘Okay, it’s not an Everton future any more, it’s his decision, I need to respect that, and then we will see what happens.

‘I heard from the board that at the moment there’s not really an offer on the table.

‘I knew it already at the end of the season [that he would leave].’
