Arsenal have been given a glimmer of hope in their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe due to the 18-year-old’s rapport with Arsene Wenger, according to reports in France.

Arsenal are among the clubs in the race for Mbappe but Marca claimed on Tuesday that Real Madrid had agreed a world record £161 million deal with Monaco to sign the forward this summer.

Monaco have since denied that an agreement is in place and the club’s vice president, Vadim Vasilyev, has revealed that contract talks are taking place.

‘There is no agreement,’ he said.

‘Monaco’s wish is to prolong [his contract], but we must allow time to discuss with the player and his family.’

L’Equipe claim that Arsenal should not yet be discounted from the race as Wenger has had a major impact on Mbappe.

The pair have held talks about a potential move to the Premier League this summer and L’Equipe claims that the 18-year-old’s rapport with the Arsenal boss is stronger than that of the other managers he has spoken to.

The report also claims that Arsenal have the financial muscle to compete with Madrid and Manchester City for Mbappe’s signature, although the lack of Champions League football could be a decisive factor.

When asked earlier this month if he expects Mbappe to stay at Monaco for another season, Wenger said: ‘Yes, it looks like that.

‘Too much choice, maybe. So in the end, people don’t move.’
