Manchester United will send a scout to watch Anderlecht midfielder Leander Dendoncker on Friday, according to reports in Belgium.

De Morgen report that a representative from United will be present for Anderlecht’s opening game of the new season against Antwerp, but scouts from AC Milan and RB Leipzig will also be in attendance.

The report claims that Dendoncker is high on Jose Mourinho’s shortlist but the Belgium club are keen to keep hold of the 22-year-old.

And to ward off rival clubs, Anderlecht have priced the midfielder at €38 million (£34m).

Dendoncker faced United last season during Anderlecht’s Europa League campaign and scored his first ever European goal to hold Jose Mourinho’s side to a 1-1 draw in Belgium.

When asked about United and Chelsea’s reported interest last month, Dendoncker said: ‘Those are nice clubs. We will see.’

Anderlecht, meanwhile, have insisted that they have no plans to sell the midfielder this summer

‘We want to keep him another year,’ the Belgian club’s sporting director, Herman Van Holsbeeck, told Het Nieuwsblad in June.

‘We do not need the money.’
