Ivan Perisic showed exactly why Jose Mourinho is so keen to bring him to Manchester United with a moment of real magic during Inter Milan’s friendly against Bayern Munich.

The Croatia international proved a thorn in Bayern’s side during a promising first half full of trickery, high pressing and skill before pulling off an assist of the highest quality.

Perisic is known for his fine deliveries from wide positions and he loves getting the ball into the box.

Last season, he averaged 6.6 crosses per game, which is a vastly superior figure to United’s other wide options of Jesse Lingard (1), Anthony Martial (2.24) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (2).

But those stats don’t capture the quality of the balls he can whip in – something that was so evident for Eder’s second goal of the first half against Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Perisic used his pace brilliantly to get away from Rafinha before driving a measured ball onto the head of the Italian front man, who made no mistake in dispatching it into the back of the net.

New United dangerman Romelu Lukaku will no doubt be relishing the prospect of linking up with Perisic, should Ed Woodward wrap up a deal for the 28-year-old.

The former Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund star is believed to be at the top of Mourinho’s wishlist along with Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic as United look to wrap up what would be a fine summer of spending.

Victor Lindelof and Lukaku are the only arrivals thus far but fans will hope to see Perisic in the famous red shirt next season as they push for a first Premier League title under Mourinho.
