Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has confirmed Gareth Bale could leave the club this summer and says the Welshman’s future is not up to him.

Bale, 28, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent days with Madrid believed to be closing in on a world record move for Monaco ace Kylian Mbappe.

The La Liga giants are putting together a £160million deal for Mbappe but must raise funds – and create space – for the French teenager at the Bernabeu.

Jose Mourinho was seen speaking with Bale after United’s friendly with Madrid last week and Zidane says he can’t guarantee the Welshman will stay at the club.

‘I hope the BBC [Benzema, Bale, Cristiano] stays but I am not the one to decide,’ Zidane told reporters after Madrid’s 4-1 defeat to Manchester City.

The French boss is remaining tight-lipped over Madrid’s move for Mbappe and insists it is not right to speak about another club’s player.

‘I am the coach, it is for someone else to speak about,’ said Zidane.

United have spent £105m in the transfer window so far this summer but a move for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic is proving difficult.

The Red Devils appeared to be closing in on a move for the Croatian a fortnight ago but the reemergence of Bale on the market could explain why a move for the winger has slowed.
