Inter Milan manager Luciano Spalletti has warned Manchester United that a transfer move for Ivan Perisic is looking increasingly unlikely as the summer goes on.

The Red Devils have been strongly linked with the Croatian winger for much of this transfer window, with Jose Mourinho known to be keen on signing a pacey wide-man in the coming weeks.#

However, United may have to look elsewhere as Spalletti says he will do his best to block any move for Perisic due to time running out for his own side to replace him if he were to leave.

The Italian tactician also made the surprise claim that United haven’t made ‘important contact’ over the 28-year-old, suggesting their interest was less concrete than media speculation has made out.

‘Until now, there hasn’t been any important contact,’ Spalletti said.

‘There was something you already know about at the beginning of the window (but) there was no follow-up and so, for me, the topic is over.

‘It’s true as time goes by, it becomes more and more difficult to replace him with another player.

‘I will strongly oppose the sale of Perisic if an offer comes.’

United have been linked with alternatives in that attacking midfield role, with Gareth Bale the most high-profile name reportedly being considered by the club.
