Arsenal’s club doctors have visited Alexis Sanchez to verify the Chilean’s claims he has been laid low by a sickness bug, according to the Daily Mail.

Earlier this week Arsene Wenger, who remains adamant the former Barcelona forward will not be sold this summer, claimed his star man would return to training on Sunday having been given an extended break following the Confederations Cup.

Sanchez, however, sparked speculation he would go on strike and force through a move to either Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester City by taking to Instagram claiming he was sick on Friday.

According to reports, members of Arsenal’s medical team have now visited Sanchez and confirmed to Wenger that last season’s top goalscorer is suffering from flu.

‘There is no development in his future it is always the same. He is staying, of course,’ said Wenger after Saturday’s 5-2 win over Benfica at the Emirates Cup.

Asked whether Sanchez has told him he wants to leave, Wenger added: ‘I cannot reveal what he says, I can’t reveal secret conversations.’

‘I think the players who want a new contract have to respect their contract,’ he added.

‘For a manager it’s a bit different, it concerns what is the future of the club, what’s going on what’s happening, it has great uncertainty. For the player it’s different.

‘I can’t reveal to you what he says always. I cannot reveal what is a secret conversation. We speak in English. He’s flying back as soon as he’s in a position to fly back – he has the flu. That’s normally four or five days.’
