Jose Mourinho wants Manchester United to finally sign a winger after completing a deal to bring Nemanja Matic to Old Trafford.

Matic is set to be unveiled as United’s third summer signing after Chelsea sanctioned his £40million exit.

Mourinho was determined to bolster his midfield options and turned to Serbia international Matic after giving up hope on a potential deal for England and Tottenham star Eric Dier.

Matic’s arrival at the Theatre of Dreams will be seen as a significant boost for the Portuguese boss but he remains hopeful of adding to his squad during the remainder of the summer window.

The Daily Telegraph say Mourinho has made it clear to Old Trafford chiefs that he still wants to secure a deal for a winger, with Ivan Perisic heavily linked with a summer move.

The Croatia international is said to be keen on a switch to the Premier League but United have so far baulked at his £49million valuation.

It is claimed United would prefer to complete a stunning deal for Gareth Bale, but it is unlikely Real Madrid will sanction his exit unless they sign Kylian Mbappe from French champions Monaco.

Speaking about Perisic’s future at Inter earlier in the week, manager Luciano Spalletti said: ‘Until now, there hasn’t been any important contact.

‘There was something you already know about at the beginning of the window [but] there was no follow-up and so, for me, the topic is over.

‘It’s true as time goes by, it becomes more and more difficult to replace him with another player.

‘I will strongly oppose the sale of Perisic if an offer comes.’
