Eintracht Frankfurt starlet Aymen Barkok has spoken out amid speculation Arsenal are interested in signing him this summer.

Barkok, 19, has scored two goals in five Bundesliga appearances since breaking into Frankfurt’s first-team last year but recent reports in Germany linked the midfielder with a move to the Emirates.

Arsene Wenger is understood to be an admirer of Barkok and the promising youngster has admitted he is ‘flattered’ following the recent rumours.

‘To be honest, I learned from the press,’ Barkok told German outlet Weisbadener Kurier when asked about a north London switch.

‘I have not received a request yet. But, of course, I am flattered.

‘It would be great to play in the Europa League or Champions League.

‘But that is still a long way away. I have to prove myself in the Bundesliga.’

Barkok heaped praise on Eintracht Frankfurt manager Niko Kovac for giving him an opportunity in the Bundesliga last season.

He said: ‘It was very, very good. I never expected that I would get so much time.

‘I am very grateful to Coach Niko Kovac for giving me so much confidence.

‘I feel most comfortable playing the eight or 10. At the European Championship, I also played on the left front, but I can handle it as a six. I think I am very flexible.’
