Arsenal posted a tweet featuring Alexis Sanchez on Thursday night that threw their fans into a state of total confusion.

At 10.42pm the club issued a picture on their official Twitter account of the Chilean forward wearing the new Arsenal strip. Included was a red dot and the number 7.

So what does it mean? Considering the club haven’t issues tweets like this for any other player, the conspiracy theorists came out in force.

Here’s the tweet…

The obvious answer is that it is informing fans that Sanchez will wear the No.7 jersey next season. But we knew this anyway. He wore it last season and there’s no reason to think he wouldn’t be doing so again for the 2017/18 campaign.

Is it a defiant message from the club? ‘Here is a picture of Sanchez and he is an Arsenal player,’ they say. That theory would certainly tie in with Arsene Wenger’s comments earlier today in which he said the player – who has 12 months left on his contract – respects the club’s stance that they won’t sell him this summer.

Wenger on Sanchez…

‘The only thing I can tell you is he is focused. My decision is clear. He will stay, it’s as simple as that and he will respect that.’

Whatever it’s about, Arsenal fans are confused.
