Crystal Palace have shelved plans to sign Arsenal defender Calum Chambers as Frank De Boer explores the possibility of sealing a loan agreement for Manchester United ace Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

The Eagles have made just one signing so far this summer with Ajax defender Jairo Riedewald arriving for £7.5million.

The Dutchman has identified his side’s defence as an area of concern and Arsenal ace Chambers was believed to be close to a switch to Selhurst Park.

However, the Gunners want around £20million for the England U21 international and that’s forced the Eagles to look elsewhere.

Fosu-Mensah came through Ajax’s academy and has impressed on United’s pre-season tour of the United States.

The Dutchman is capable of playing at right-back and centre-back but is arguably most comfortable in defensive midfield.

According to the Sun, Palace have put a move for Chambers on ice as they wait to find out if they can secure Fosu-Mensah on a season-long loan.

It’s unclear as yet whether Jose Mourinho wants to keep the versatile Dutchman and the deal could hinge on the Red Devils’ interest in Serge Aurier.
