Lyon winger Memphis Depay has welcomed Paris Saint-Germain new boy Neymar to France…by issuing him with a free-kick challenge.

Neymar, 25, completed his world record £198million move to the French capital on Thursday after Unai Emery’s side agreed to pay the Barcelona forward’s release clause.

The Brazilian’s move eclipses United’s £89m deal for Paul Pogba from last summer and one of the Frenchman’s former team-mates – Depay – has welcomed Neymar to Ligue 1 in his own inventive way.

The Dutchman took to his Instagram to invite Neymar to a free-kick challenge to see who could score the most set pieces next season.

Depay was well known for his free-kick ability when he was at PSV Eindhoven but failed to live up to his potential during an ill-fated 18 months at Old Trafford.

The 23-year-old, who joined Lyon in January for around £16m, wrote: ‘Hey Neymar, welcome to Ligue 1. I look forward to see who nets the most free kicks this season – I’m definitely up for the challenge.’

His time at the Theatre of Dreams may not have turned out as he’d have liked but it’s clear to see that Depay’s lost none of his self-belief…
