Tottenham fans hoping for a lift ahead of the new season were dealt a blow when Moussa Sissoko was named in their starting XI for Saturday’s friendly against Juventus.

After finishing second to Chelsea last season, Spurs have been exceptionally quiet in this summer’s transfer market and have failed to make a single addition to their squad.

Indeed, the most significant piece of transfer news concerning the club came in the shape of Kyle Walker’s £50million departure to Manchester City.

With no new signings of which to speak, manager Mauricio Pochettino has been reluctant to sanction any further sales, especially in light of the broken arm which will rule Son Heung-Min out of the start of the season.

Still, most Spurs fans were hoping the club’s record signing Sissoko, who arrived in a £30m deadline day deal from Newcastle last summer, would have been shipped off by now and were horrified to find him selected against the Italian champions at Wembley…
