Chelsea will bid £60million for Southampton captain Virgil van Dijk after Antonio Conte lambasted the board, reports say.

Van Dijk has been the subject of intense transfer speculation this summer with Liverpool the Netherlands international’s preferred destination.

Conte once again aimed fire at the Chelsea board after he saw his side go down to Arsenal in the Community Shield on Sunday.

Pedro’s sending off tipped the game in Arsenal’s favour and Chelsea never recovered from going down to ten men.

Conte cut a frustrated figure on the sidelines and post-match and the Mirror claim he has issued another order to the Chelsea board to sign new players immediately.

As a result, the board will make an offer to Southampton for their wantaway centre-back Van Dijk.

The defender has been agitating for a transfer this summer, but has his heart set on a switch to Liverpool.

Van Dijk is training by himself and has been banished from the first-team sessions.

Southampton do not want to sell to Liverpool after they accused the Reds of tapping up their player earlier in the summer.

Chelsea are confident the mere fact they are not Liverpool gives them the edge in the race for Van Dijk’s signature.

Conte was visibly frustrated in his post-match press conference and dismissed questions about possible transfer targets.

He said: ‘I have replied to this question [about new players].

‘I hope in the future to have a different question.

‘My reply is always the same, otherwise it means I was telling you a lie.’

Chelsea missed out on Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, much to Conte’s fury, while it seems Juventus have convinced Alex Sandro to turn down the Blues.
