Everton will move for Danny Welbeck should they fail in a transfer for Olivier Giroud, reports say.

The Toffees are still chasing Giroud, but are prepared to turn their attentions to his fellow Arsenal striker.

The Mirror claim Ronald Koeman is preparing for the possibility Giroud will reject Everton and has earmarked his team-mate as the best alternative.

Giroud is still considering his options amid intense transfer speculation and is waiting to hear from Arsene Wenger if he is in his future plans.

The Frenchman played most of minutes last season from the bench and Koeman is offering Giroud the game time he craves.

Koeman has already signed two strikers this summer with the arrival of Wayne Rooney from Manchester United and Sandro Ramirez from La Liga.

Welbeck has struggled with injuries in the last two years and has never really got his Arsenal career off the ground as a result.

The England international would cost as much as £30million in today’s market.

Koeman has been busy this summer, but is determined to add powerful target man to his squad.

Giroud and Welbeck fit that bill and may feel their opportunities at Arsenal will be limited behind Alexis Sanchez and Alexandre Lacazette.

Wenger is reluctant to let Giroud leave the club before it becomes crystal clear that Alexis Sanchez will stay at the Emirates.

The Chilean is in the last year of his current deal and is eager to take up a new challenge at a different club this summer.

But, Wenger has been adamant that Sanchez is going nowhere in this window regardless of whether the attacker signs a new contract.
