Chelsea are reportedly stepping up their efforts to make more signings before the end of the transfer window, with Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater a priority target.

Antonio Conte is seemingly a big fan of the England international, having been impressed by his partnership with Blues ace N’Golo Kante, who joined from Leicester last year.

It was claimed that Chelsea wanted to sign both players on that occasion, only for the Foxes to block such a deal, but a renewed effort to bring in Drinkwater now looks to be on the cards.

Conte has endured a frustrating summer but has transfer chief Marina Granovskaia on the case as he eyes as many as four more new additions before the end of the month.

With Nemanja Matic leaving for Manchester United, possibly against Conte’s will, a new signing in that part of the field is seen as crucial due to Tiemoue Bakayoko’s current injury status.

According to the London Evening Standard, Drinkwater has been identified as a priority, with another departure also on the cards in that area as youngster Lewis Baker looks set to go out on loan.

Chelsea are also keen to sign another wing-back, an attacking midfielder and a striker in the coming weeks, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alex Sandro, Ross Barkley, Renato Sanches and Fernando Llorente being looked at.

Drinkwater played a key role in helping Leicester to their shock 2015/16 Premier League title win, and also impressed for the club at Champions League level last term.

The 27-year-old started his career at rivals Manchester United before joining Leicester in 2012, and now has three England caps to his name after proving something of a late bloomer in the Premier League.
