Antonio Conte does not seem happy at Chelsea and looks likely to be gone within a year, according to Liverpool legend and leading pundit Jamie Carragher.

The Blues have gone through a large number of managers during Roman Abramovich’s reign at Stamford Bridge, dating back to when he purchased the club in 2003.

Conte is the latest to appear unsettled, with the Italian publicly unhappy with the club’s work in the transfer market this summer, during which four new players have come in.

Chelsea have spent close to £130million on Alvaro Morata, Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko, but Conte is thought to be keen on making as many as four more signings before the transfer deadline.

Carragher believes Conte won’t be happy about the sale of Nemanja Matic to Manchester United either, with the former Juventus boss recently hinting it wasn’t his decision to let the Serbian join a rival.

‘I’d be very surprised if I’m sitting here in 12 months’ time and he’s the Chelsea manager,’ Carragher told Sky Sports.

‘I think he’s the type of manager who won’t accept the involvement from people above, especially on the back of winning the title.

‘He’s not going to go quietly and it’s not great for the club when the manager is coming out and speaking the way he is.’

However, the former England defender added that Chelsea’s model of rapidly replacing managers has largely worked for them so far due to the success they’ve enjoyed in the Abramovich era.

‘Chelsea have a business model. They are bit like Real Madrid in this sense – they don’t value the manager like other clubs,’ he continued.

‘They’re not scared to get rid of a top manager or get rid of someone after 12 months, but you can’t really complain. Since Abramovich came in I think they’ve won more trophies than anyone.

‘They have a model where they have a big say over how that club is run; the owner, (technical director Michael) Emanalo and people involved there.

‘Maybe that is a frustration for Conte. He wants more players coming in.

‘The Matic deal is a perfect example. If you’re a manager why would you want to let him go – especially to a rival?

‘But they’ll be saying “£45m for a 29-year-old and we’ve got a replacement (Bakayoko) who is 22”. We don’t know how good he is going to be, but that has been their business model going forward.

‘The success they’ve had in changing managers … they’re not going to take anything off Conte. I would be very surprised if he’s here in 12 months.’

Conte signed a new contract with Chelsea earlier in the summer following speculation he was ready to quit the club amid interest from Inter Milan, though he tellingly only agreed a pay rise rather than extending the length of his deal.
