Jose Mourinho has conceded defeat in Manchester United’s pursuit of Inter winger Ivan Perisic.

United have submitted three offers for the 28-year-old this summer, with their highest bid of €50 million (£44m) falling short of Inter’s €55m (£48.2m) asking price.

Mourinho has admitted that he remains in the market for one more signing – an attacking player capable of playing in a wide position.

But the United manager has indicated that Perisic will not be his fourth acquisition before the window closes.

‘That’s football,’ Mourinho told Premium Sport.

‘If I was playing against Inter tomorrow I’d want to win.

‘They’re strong, they put up a good defence to keep someone who’s an important player for them. That’s football.’
