Zlatan Ibrahimovic has informed Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho that he is keen on a return to the club once he fully recovers from knee surgery.

The Swede was released from Old Trafford in July after rupturing his anterior and posterior crucicate ligaments after a nasty fall against Anderlecht in the Europa League.

The 36-year-old was set to sign a new one-year deal at the Theatre of Dreams after scoring 28 goals in his debut season but Mourinho moved for Romelu Lukaku to fill the Swede’s void.

Many feared Ibrahimovic would be forced into an early retirement given the severity of the injury but the striker’s made an astonishing recovery so far.

United believe the Swede could return as early as December and Mourinho is keen to re-sign the striker.

According to the Guardian, Ibrahimovic has told United that he wants to return to Old Trafford and the striker’s already in talks over a new deal.

AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and Monaco have all been linked with moves for Ibrahimovic but he believes he has unfinished business in the Premier League.

While it will take time for Ibrahimovic to regain his match fitness, he could be fit and firing again by February and could add to United’s attack for the final four months of the season.
