Chelsea boss Antonio Conte says Alvaro Morata is yet to start for the club because playing adapting to his style of play as a striker is ‘more difficult’ than in other positions.

Morata, 24, has made three appearances for the club since his £70million move from Real Madrid and emerged from the bench in Chelsea’s Community Shield defeat to Arsenal.

The Spaniard missed a penalty in the shooutout after replacing Michy Batshuayi in normal time and he says critics are already ‘killing him’ since moving to Stamford Bridge.

Batshuayi is expected to start against Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and Conte’s explained why Morata’s yet to be given a starting berth.

‘It’s normal for me and also for the players that start to work me that they need time to adapt to our style of football, said Conte.

‘Alvaro is working very well and improving a lot in these last ten days. He’s starting to understand what I want from him during the game but for sure he needs time to understand our style.

‘A striker for me is a really important role. It’s very important to understand what position I want [them to play] during the game.

‘This role is more difficult to adapt than the other roles.
