Tottenham have seen an ambitious bid for out of favour Manchester United star Anthony Martial rejected, according to reports.

The France international became an instant favourite with United fans following his surprise £36million move from Monaco two years ago but has struggled to cement a regular starting spot under Jose Mourinho.

The 21-year-old was forced to cope with the ignominy of being stripped of the No.9 shirt upon Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s arrival last summer and has steadily slipped down the Special One’s pecking order.

Martial was an unused substitute during Tuesday European Super Cup defeat against Real Madrid and according to French outlet RMC, is now the subject of renewed interest from Tottenham.

Mauricio Pochettino had identified Martial as a primary target two years ago before he was gazumped by United and has tested the waters with an opening bid for the out of favour winger.

Tottenham have been inactive in the summer transfer window up until now and were even criticised by their own player Danny Rose earlier this week for failing to show ambition.

Pochettino appears, however, to have belatedly sprung into action and is close to agreeing a deal for Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez.
