Jose Mourinho has gone with an attacking line-up for Manchester United’s first Premier League game of the 2017/18 season.

Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku both start up front with fellow summer signing Nemanja Matic also included.

However, there is no place for another summer addition as Mourinho drops Victor Lindelof from the matchday squad entirely.

Lindelof did not inspire confidence in United’s defeat to Real Madrid in the Super Cup final and Mourinho has placed his faith in Phil Jones and Eric Bailly in the heart of defence.

Chris Smalling is preferred to Lindelof on the United bench while former Red Devil Javier Hernandez gets the nod for his debut for West Ham.

The Hammers also handed debuts to two other summer signings with Joe Hart and Marko Arnautovic included in the starting line-up.

United have a chance to make a statement with Chelsea and Liverpool dropping points on the opening weekend.

Chelsea were beaten by Burnley in a disastrous start to the defence of their title while Liverpool were held to a 3-3 draw by Watford.
