Thierry Henry admits he was taken aback by Alexandre Lacazette’s Arsenal debut and cannot wait to see the club’s record signing in tandem with Alexis Sanchez.

Arsene Wenger has a multitude of options at his disposal this season following the arrival of Lacazette from Lyon with Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi and Mesut Ozil all vying for places in a start-studded attack.

Sanchez’s impending return to fitness will offer the Gunners’ boss another intriguing option and despite Giroud’s matchwinning heroics on Friday in Arsenal’s dramatic 4-3 win over Leicester, Henry believes it is a combination of Lacazette and the Chile international that offers Wenger the best hope of success this season.

‘I like him,’ Henry told Monday Night Football when asked about Lacazette’s debut, during which he opened his goalscoring account for the club after just two minutes.

‘His overall play is on point. Obviously he is going to have to score goals and goals and goals to get the crowd going, but the way he has started is very good for me.

‘The most important thing is that he does score goals. Obviously I am going to be biased because he is French and he plays for Arsenal but I like his overall play. Very neat, very clean, he does whatever the game is asking him to do.

‘I think Lacazette is going to play in the centre. That is where I would like to see him play. Giroud can offer a lot and he showed that but I would love to see the partnership that Sanchez and Lacazette can create.’
