A sense that Jack Wilshere no longer belongs at the level of his Arsenal team-mates was perfectly encapsulated in a training drill on Friday.

The England international has become the forgotten man at the Emirates.

After years of injury problems he was sent on loan to Bournemouth last year where he quietly ghosted through the season.

He’s since returned to the Gunners but he seems something of an after-thought, with injury having made him unavailable so far this term. But even if he were fit, many would question whether he still warrants a place in the side.

He’s been persistently linked with a transfer away, with links to Championship side Aston Villa summing up how far his stock has fallen.

But that might have just dropped a little lower following a recent social post from the Gunners.

It shows Wilshere as the ‘piggy-in-the-middle’ as his team-mates keep the ball away from him. He can’t get close to the likes of Kieran Gibbs, Hector Bellerin, Nacho Monreal and Olivier Giroud.

In the end, Wilshere resorts to using his hand to win back the ball.

As the video shows, Wilshere is closing in on a return to fitness but Arsenal’s game against Stoke this weekend is expected to come too soon for him to be considered.
