Romelu Lukaku has made a blistering start to his Manchester United career and joined an elite group of players with his goal against Swansea on Saturday.

United followed up their opening weekend destruction of West Ham with an equally convincing 4-0 win over Paul Clement’s men, Lukaku sealing the points with the second goal of the game nine minutes from time.

The club’s record signing, who joined from Everton in a £75million move earlier in the summer, has now scored four times in his first three competitive games for United and becomes only the fifth man to have scored in his first two Premier League appearances for the club.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the man who Lukaku has directly replaced, achieved the same feat last season with goals against Bournemouth and Southampton, while Anthony Martial, who scored the fourth goal against Swansea, matched the two No.9s when he scored against Liverpool and Southampton in consecutive matches.

On his integration with his new teammates, Jose Mourinho said of Lukaku: ‘I feel that connection [between Lukaku and Rashford] but I also feel that connection with more players.

‘I feel Martial and Romelu is a good connection. I feel Lingard is a good connection. I feel Mkhitaryan is a good connection.

‘I think Romelu is a good player to play with. Okay, strikers, they live on numbers. It was probably because of his numbers that we paid so much to have him.

‘But a striker is not just numbers. It is also the way he plays, the solutions he gives and the way he makes space for other players.

‘For people like Marcus, Martial and Mkhitaryan to have that target man to play with them, I think it is very good.’
