Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez is set to make his long-awaited return in the Gunners’ clash with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

The Chilean hasn’t played for the club since Arsenal’s FA Cup final win against Chelsea at Wembley in May.

The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the club this summer and is yet to sign a contract extension to his current deal that expires at the end of the season.

Arsenal have three points from their first two games and lost 1-0 against Stoke City at the bet365 stadium on Saturday.

Sanchez was ruled out of that clash with an abdominal strain but Wenger says the Chilean could return for Sunday’s visit to Merseyside.

‘If all goes well through the week, he should be available to be selected for the next game,’ said Wenger.

‘He has not played for a long time. Look, we will prepare him well. He was out with a muscular strain and hopefully he will survive the tests first before he comes back.

‘He’s not played now for six weeks and it’s difficult to be at your best in the first game straight away.’
