PSG defender Serge Aurier underwent a medical in Paris on Thursday ahead of an imminent switch to the Premier League, with Tottenham his most likely destination.

The Ivory Coast star has been surplus to requirements ever since Dani Alves joined the club, though a move has stalled as he needed to get clearance to obtain a work permit following an assault charge.

Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in the former Toulouse right-back, with Jose Mourinho keen for cover in the position, though it is Spurs who have edged ahead.

And now Friday’s edition of L’Equipe suggests the move to north London is imminent, with Aurier already having undergone a medical in the French capital in readiness for the move.

It is possible that his move to Spurs, where he will replace Kyle Walker after the Englishman joined Manchester City in a £50m deal, could be announced in a matter of days.

Aurier is believed to be costing Tottenham around £23m, a bargain in today’s market, and will sign a long-term contract once a document has been obtained that proves he has had his assault charge overturned.

However, given that he has been forced to have his medical in France, rather than in the United Kingdom, it suggests said document allowing him to enter the UK has still not been provided.

Although there are major question marks over his attitude and temperament, Mauricio Pochettino will hope he can get the best out of a player who has all the qualities needed to slot straight into Spurs’ system.

Mourinho had hoped to pull off a deal in an effort to get cover and competition for Antonio Valencia, but will have to make do with his current options – such as Matteo Darmain – instead.

For their part, PSG are desperate for the cash, having spent £198m on Neymar and rumoured to be closing in on an incredible double deal for Monaco duo Fabinho and Kylian Mbappe, but must sell players to comply with FFP rules.
