Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi looks set to leave the club this week after agreeing to join Inter Milan, according to reports in Italy.

The German has spent just one season in north London following a £34million move from Valencia in 2016.

The 25-year-old showed promise during the early stages of life at the Emirates but he struggled in the second half of the season.

Arsene Wenger allowed Gabriel to join Villarreal because of the promise of Rob Holding and the Frenchman refused to confirm Mustafi would stay during Thursday’s press conference.

Inter Milan have showed strong interest in the Germany international and Gianluca Di Marzio claims Mustafi has agreed to move to the San Siro.

Mustafi is said to have informed the Gunners of his wish to leave and Inter would ideally like to take him on loan with an option to buy.

However, Arsenal are in no rush for him to leave and want to recoup the £34m they paid last summer before allowing the German to depart.

Mustafi’s exit would be a surprise at this late stage of the window and would suggest Wenger is planning on reintroducing Calum Chambers into his first-team squad.

The England u21 international spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough and impressed on Teeside.
